Blekko is the next generation in search. There I’ve said it. Blekko search engine has brazenly taken Google’s weakness and used it to create a completely different product. Different Product? Yes, a different product. Sure it’s still a search engine and yes sure it finds you stuff, but how does it do on quality control ? Very well indeed.
Google’s weakness which may also be argued is their strength, is the shear amount of data/websites it indexes and then having to deal with enormous amounts of spammy websites it collects. Google is dogged in it’s approach to dealing with spammy websites just ask Matt Cutts, but it means that somewhere along the line a search engine will come along that provides a “cleaner” more “boutique” experience. That day has arrived, well, not entirely as it’s still in it’s test mode but it’s still very handy in it’s infantile state.
Blekko search engine has eliminated spammy website’s by using not only it’s algorythm but also by using YOU the user. That’s right, if you think a site is Spam and not worthy of your time, you mark it as spam and away you go. Providing Blekko with data on sites that are spam for later policing and allowing you the user to delete spam from your searching instantly. What Blekko has also done is started to segment and sort the content that we read, ie: with Blekko you can use their slash technology to tell it what sort of information you are looking for ie: if your looking for information on global warming from a green standpoint you slash green and Blekko produces sites that are green orientated if you are looking for information on global warming from a conservative standpoint you slash conservative. User’s can also generate their own slashtags and segment data.
Unlike Google Blekko is very open to sharing it’s SEO process, with fantastic tools built around improving your sites chances of ranking within it.
The promotional video below explains it’s point of difference quite well.
